Minicraft 1/144 F-51 Kit Review
Minicraft has had a 1/144-scale P-51 in its catalog for a number of years. The F-51 designation indicates an aircraft in use after WWII. In 1947, the U.S. Air Force officially became a military branch separate from the U.S. Army (prior to that, and during WWII, it was known as the U.S. Army Air Forces. Once this occurred, the designation for fighter planes was changed from the obsolete “P” (pursuit) to “F” for fighter that endures to this day. So, the P-51 became known as the F-51, and that was the designation used for the aircraft during the Korean War. We believe this is the first time a model kit company has offered a Korean War-era F-51 in 1/144 scale.
