The Boeing 707 was a big deal when it began passenger operations late in 1958. It began a revolution in the way we travel. Prior to the jet-powered 707, trains and ships were the only economical long-distance travel methods. The 707 and the airliners that followed changed that!
The same year, Revell released its 707 kit, based on their then-new KC-135 kit. Many youngsters who traveled by jet for the first time had to have this kit, and it has seen many versions over the years. Atlantis Models has obtained the tooling for this model and now re-releases it in a Boeing demonstrator livery, the first time the classic Revell 707-120 has worn a Boeing corporate scheme!
YOUR PAN AM CLIPPER TRIP ITINERARY: CLASSIC REVELL KIT RETURNS WITH NEW BOX ART AND ALL-NEW DECALS (COLLECTORS, TAKE NOTE) -- BUILDING IT WILL BE A VINTAGE EXPERIENCE WITH GLUE AND PAINTING EXPERIENCE HELPFUL -- EXPECT SOME PARTS PREP -- AFTERMARKET-QUALITY DECAL SHEET THAT AIRLINER BUILDERS SHOULD ENJOY -- POSSIBILITIES ABOUND FOR A QUICK-BUILD OR A CONTEST WINNER!

Atlantis Models' first issue of the classic Revell Boeing 707 has a Boeing demonstrator scheme!
Atlantis Models has released its 1/139-scale 707! This kit was last released by Revell in the year 2000. The tooling is now owned by Atlantis. If you’re wondering, 1/139 is practically indistinguishable from 1/144 scale. So your new 707 model, when built, will look right at home with your other 1/144 models.
The model has 66 parts molded in white styrene plastic. A stand is included; you may also build the model with the landing gear up as if in-flight.
Atlantis’ Boeing 707-120 comes from classic Revell tooling. Be prepared for a truly vintage kit building experience with some trimming, sanding, and putty work involved. But even after all this time, this is still the best early 707 model kit out there! An all-new, premium quality decal sheet portrays Boeing’s demonstrator aircraft.
With our only credentials being that we are hopeless airliner modeling geeks, we provided input to Atlantis Models on this decal sheet. Separate windows and doors allow you to use them for other projects if you decide to go with aftermarket decals! You'll pay around $22 for a nice set of aftermarket decals anyway; buying the model just for the decal sheet is like getting the kit plastic free!
Capturing the complex shape of the Boeing nose isn’t easy for the model kit makers, but Revell did it nicely with the 707. Overall, the model captures the look of the early short-body 707 very well.
We have a comprehensive history page about Revell’s 707 and KC-135 kits that you can read here (this link will be included after the review if you want to wait until then to see it). We decided to create the additional page that you're reading now for this new Atlantis kit as part of our website's comprehensive KC-135/707 model kit history series.

This model has raised rivets. Everybody has their opinion on these; of course you always have the option of leaving them as-is to build the model the way that Revell intended, or sand 'em off and go smooth!
We actually worked with Atlantis models on development of the decal sheet. Quite often, the decals that come with airliner kits are set aside by the modeler. It was our hope that Atlantis would create a decal that was aftermarket-quality for this kit, and I believe that Atlantis hit the mark with this sheet.
Separate doors and windows give you more options and allow much more precise location of the decal. Atlantis used silver ink for the window outlines. This is only found in aftermarket decals sheets or premium-quality kit decals. It costs more to manufacture--but Atlantis doesn't "cheap out" when they make their kits. You may want to use the windows and doors from this sheet for your other Boeing projects!
Atlantis always provides helpful information on their boxes. Many kits include a picture of the decal sheet; this is a nice perk!
The Atlantis 707 is truly a vintage 1950's kit and you’ll note some flash and sinkholes.
It’s not unusual for airliner model builders to sand off the raised rivets and fill the indented windows with putty. Or, you could mask and paint the cheatlines yourself, and fill in the window indentations with black paint. Then, you can save the window decals for another airliner project.

Instructions are on a single, folded 11X17" sheet (approximately A3 size).
One of the minor bugaboos of the original kit is a seam on top of the wings that crosses the spoilers. If you spend a little time and do some trimming and shimming with thin sheet plastic, you can eliminate minor gaps and let the fore and aft wing parts join smoothly at the seam.
When you apply the decals, put the fuselage stripes on first. Let them dry overnight before applying the windows and doors. The beauty of the sheet is that the multi-layer approach will allow you to get alignment perfect.
After you've built the model out-of-the-box using the new decal, you can use the same kit with one of the many aftermarket decal sheets available!

There are many aftermarket decal options out there for early 707's like these!
The box end, still in shrinkwrap. It's a new interpretation of an old favorite! Be sure you buy a few to build and at least one more to collect!
We’re ecstatic to see this model again and in an Atlantis box. We enjoyed the opportunity to provide input, so realize we have a little bias in our assessment of the kit. But as we all know, Atlantis models has built a reputation for making sure that their model kits from vintage tooling are better than they ever have been before. This kit is no exception. The 2Modeler guys give it two enthusiastic thumbs up!
